Insustrial design refers to modifications to the design of existing products without changing their functionality. There are two types according to the Industrial Property Law: Industrial drawings, which are any combination of figures, lines or colors that are incorporated into an industrial or craft product for purposes of ornamentation and that give it a peculiar and unique aspect, and Industrial Models, constituted by line combinations, or figures to be used as a template for product manufacturing of an industrial or artisanal product, that gives it a special appearance as long as it does not imply technical effects.
Its exclusive use is obtained through registration with the IMPI and can be renewed every 5-year term for up to 25 years.
